The story follows siblings Rayne and Braidon as they leave their bedroom and enter a magical world threatened by a dark force called the Gloom.

The best part of this book is the relationship between the brother and sister. They feel like real children who care for each other even when they are bickering. While thirteen-year-old Rayne is brave, younger Braidon shows great courage as he learns to face his fears. Their bond gives the story heart and makes the stakes feel personal.

The world is creative and easy to picture. The author uses great details to describe unique creatures like Bindermoles and the Singing Tree. A very interesting part of the plot is how the children discover their father has a secret connection to this land through his old sketches. This mystery keeps the story moving quickly.

The writing is clear and easy to follow, making it perfect for readers between the ages of eight and eleven. Even during tense moments, the story feels safe and encouraging. It is a heartfelt tribute to the power of imagination and the importance of family. This is a great start to a new series, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves adventure. D. J. Fifield understands the middle-grade voice and the balance between wanting independence and needing the safety of home. Rayne is a perfect bridge for readers who still crave the magic of discovery. The language is accessible and the message is sincere.

Braidon, Rayne, and their cousin Zach return to a magical world full of charming characters like the grumpy little Grumplee Greenback and the warm, cookie-baking Enkletob, and the world-building feels lived-in and full of heart.

What really sets this book apart is how it handles Papa's illness and passing. It's gentle, honest, and genuinely moving without ever feeling heavy for young readers. Braidon's sketchbook, something that seems like a small hobby early on, becomes something much more meaningful by the end, and that payoff is beautifully done.

This is a book about family, imagination, and love, and it's a wonderful read for kids and the grown-ups reading along with them. Highly recommend.

I really enjoyed The Light of Phanesium. The story was interesting and easy to follow, and I liked the magical world of Phanesium. My favorite part was Riah’s journey and the friendships between the characters. The book has a lot of heart and shows the importance of hope, family, and imagination. It was a sweet and enjoyable fantasy read.
